Demeris Barbecue

Considering we're having a backyard wedding and that it's Texas, barbecue was the obvious choice for catering. It does seem rather ironic given that I'm a vegetarian, but Alex is a big meat eater.

We definitely want our guests from out of town to experience the best barbecue Texas has to offer, so when I asked around for recommendations Demeris was the unanimous choice.

I just booked the catering today. The menu will include beef brisket, sausage links, potato salad, cole slaw, beans and french bread.

Happy Birthday Alex!

So Monday July 27th is Alex's birthday!

Happy birthday boo! I hope you enjoy the proper mix of celebration and relaxation (see the sleepy-time pic below...)

Love you!

A Day at the Barbershop for the Guys

Love this idea from GangstaBride. A fresh shave at the barbershop for the guys on the day of the wedding!

We'll have to find just the right one in Houston for them.

Love and survival

Alex and I survived our biggest move together to date. We bickered *a little*, but we survived.

This video sums up how I feel about him still...

This one's for Alex...

A Simpson's wedding cake. Alex really likes the idea, but I'm not so sure.

I guess that's what groom's cakes are for.

Dove ornaments

Love the idea of these doves as favors.

But instead of just one name, it'd say "Alex + Heather."
And if we could make it fit, our wedding date.

Let's get married on the F train

Alex and I are both intrigued by the idea of getting married at the Transit Museum here in Brooklyn. It would be a super retro, funky affair.

And best of all, can't you just imagine us walking down the aisle (of the train) -- see above.

I'm officially putting this on the list of viable options, although I'm still waiting to hear back from them regarding pricing.

I went to a book release party there when Kathleen had her story published in the Subway Chronicles, and the venue was definitely fun but still sophisticated.

I can already see our wedding photos -- us posed together behind the ticket counter in the next photo or flirting with each other in the subway car in the last one.

Lucky in Love

As some of you may already know, Alex is obsessed with winning the lottery. Not as obsessed as some I suppose, but he loves to ponder what he'd do with his lottery winnings.

So for him, these Lucky in Love lottery ticket giveaways are perfect. Although, I think they'd be pretty great as save the date announcements as well.

The Nu Hotel

Alex just found this very cool, new boutique hotel in Brooklyn. It's actually the "Nu Hotel." I think it's a pretty solid option to become the hotel of choice for our wedding party.

The Brownstoner gives it a good review, and I think it's perfect given their relatively affordable prices (it *is* New York!) and a great location on Smith Street right near the intersection of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. There's such great shopping and dining over there.

I also like the some of the highlights including cork floors, lead-free paint, and organic sheets. As well as a few quirky ones -- hammocks in select guest rooms and bathrooms with chalkboard walls. For those of you who follow my other blog, Dabble, you know I'm a fan of chalkboards.

Tiffany

Alex and I just found some surprisingly "affordable" Tiffany wedding bands... The ring above would be for Alex, in platinum.

The one below would be for me, in silver, with diamonds.

Does the Tiffany box count as something blue?

Perhaps I can convince Alex to wear suspenders...

...to the wedding. I really love the look of this.

Of course, I always like the look of Alex. Especially when he's dressed up. Here's a shot of him in a tux at his friend John's wedding. He's on the far right.

Alex isn't usually a smoker, but I can't deny him a good cigar with the guys on a special occasion!

The Ring...

So I've tried and tried to get a decent shot of the ring to share with all of my girlfriends who aren't local. However, the blurry photo above is about the best I've been able to do.

So...I've found another ring that is extremely similar. Princess cut with baguettes on white gold.

I love it! And he even picked it out with no input from yours truly!

The Proposal!

So for those of you wondering, here's a little rundown of how it all happened...

It was my last day in the office before Thanksgiving, and Alex surprised me with a date after work. Just after sunset, we headed over to City Hall Park in Manhattan to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, stopping to admire the view periodically along the way. It was chilly out on the water, so we were all cuddled up together. Very romantic.

About half way over, he stopped, took me by the hands, said the most romantic, loving things... and then proposed!

I've pretty much been giddy ever since!

This is us below, right after. Alex is so cute in my hat.

Afterward, we walked hand in hand across the bridge to Brooklyn and then on to Grimaldi's (known for having the best Pizza in nyc).

I've never been able to get in to Grimaldi's before as they always have a line around the block, but we got a table up front by the window, had wine and pizza and traditional Italian desserts. It really is all that.

This is me as we toasted our engagement! It was a perfect night!
